CS2 Map Pool Guide 2025: Every Active Duty Map Explained

The CS2 active duty map pool consists of seven maps that rotate into official competitive and Premier mode matchmaking. Understanding each map's layout, callouts, and strategic identity is the fastest way to improve your win rate across all of them.

Active Duty Map Pool (2025)

The current active duty maps are:

    • Mirage
    • Dust2
    • Inferno
    • Nuke
    • Vertigo
    • Anubis
    • Ancient

---

Mirage

Identity: The most played map in competitive history. A balanced three-lane map with a dominant mid that controls both sites.

Key callouts:

  • A site: ramp, CT, jungle, tetris, ticket booth, palace
  • B site: apartments (short/long), van, bench, market window
  • Mid: window, top mid, short, catwalk, connector
Attacker strategy: Mid-control is the game. Take window or catwalk access and use it to split either site with a second push from apartments or ramp.

Defender strategy: Two CT-side rotators and three split between sites. Rotate through mid when the enemy commits — Mirage CT rotation through short is fast.

Win condition: The team that controls mid consistently wins Mirage. Contest it every round, even on eco.

---

Dust2

Identity: The most iconic map in FPS history. A simple two-site layout that rewards aim and crossfire setups over complex utility usage.

Key callouts:

  • A site: long, long doors, pit, car, short, CT
  • B site: tunnels (upper/lower), window, doors, platform
Attacker strategy: Long A control gives a massive positional advantage. B rushes through tunnels are fast but telegraphed. Mix the two to keep CT rotations guessing.

Defender strategy: Two anchors on B tunnels, two holding long and short A, one roaming mid. B is easier to hold than A with good crossfire.

Win condition: CT-side players who hold long corner efficiently and retake from CT win the most rounds. AT-side wins through information gathering and rotation baiting.

---

Inferno

Identity: A highly utility-dependent map where smoke usage and molotov placement determine round outcomes more than individual aim.

Key callouts:

  • A site: apartments (long), banana, balcony, pit, library, graveyard
  • B site: banana, car, dark, CT short
Attacker strategy: Banana control for B is the most contested battleground on the map. On A, apartments push with stairway support gives two-angle pressure.

Defender strategy: Hold banana aggressively or passively depending on utility — aggressive banana hold baits attackers into overcommitting. Porch anchor on A holds apartments push.

Win condition: The team that wins banana wins Inferno. The side that runs out of utility holding banana typically loses site.

---

Nuke

Identity: The most CT-sided map in the pool. A unique two-level site design that rewards deep map knowledge.

Key callouts:

  • Upper (A): silo, ramp, a-main, squeaky, heaven, radio
  • Lower (B): tunnels, b-main, b-lobby, vent, secret
Attacker strategy: Outside control through secret/vent is essential for B-site pressure. Upper A is difficult to attack without utility; split through squeaky and ramp.

Defender strategy: Rotate through the inside stairs quickly between levels. Nuke CT holds the fastest rotation of any map — one player can cover multiple contact points.

Win condition: Attackers who master the outside route and secret control win Nuke. Defenders who use silo presence to delay attacker staging win consistently.

---

Vertigo

Identity: A vertical map set on a construction skyscraper. Unique angles, ramps, and tight mid-fight geometry unlike any other map.

Key callouts:

  • A site: ramp, t-stairs, ct-stairs, a-main, mid
  • B site: b-main, ct, stairs, connector
Attacker strategy: Mid control through the scaffolding area is critical. A ramp rush can be powerful with utility to cover mid player.

Defender strategy: The B site box and stairs provide strong defensive positions. Mid presence from CT side prevents attackers from establishing mid control freely.

Win condition: Mid dominance. The side that controls the mid scaffolding controls rotations for the entire round.

---

Anubis

Identity: A newer map with an Egyptian theme. More intricate callout structure and multiple off-angle positions reward map knowledge heavily.

Key callouts:

  • A site: canal, water, main, ruins, bridge
  • B site: main, alley, palace, CT
Attacker strategy: Canal control allows splitting A site effectively. B main push with aggressive alley clearing is the most straightforward B strategy.

Defender strategy: Aggressive canal hold baits attackers into overextending. Palace position on B provides strong crossfire with site anchor.

Win condition: The team with better utility usage wins Anubis rounds. Raw mechanics matter but smoke and molotov placement define the map.

---

Ancient

Identity: A jungle-themed map with a complex attacker-side staging area and multi-angle site entries.

Key callouts:

  • A site: main, temple, ct, ramp, donut, short
  • B site: main, house, mid, ct, tunnel
Attacker strategy: Mid to CT control splits the map effectively. B main fast rushes punish overly passive CT setups.

Defender strategy: Temple position on A provides strong information without over-committing. Mid plays from CT window give information on both site pushes simultaneously.

Win condition: CT mid presence is the most valuable defensive position. The attacker who identifies and breaks mid control wins the map.
