Deadlock Death Review: Separate Position, Timing, and Mechanics

Not every death needs more aim. Label the earliest failure as position, timing, information, resource use, or execution before choosing a fix.

Why this matters

Death review becomes useful when it changes the next decision. Broad labels such as overextended hide whether the route, clock, vision, or escape resource caused the danger.

Three decisions to clean up

Find the last safe position

Rewind until you still had a reliable exit. The choice immediately after that point usually reveals the earliest controllable error.

Check timing and information

Count visible enemies, nearby teammates, lane pressure, and objective state. A sound mechanical play can begin from a poor map window.

Review resource order

Note which abilities and items were available, used, or held. Execution practice only helps after the fight has a reasonable setup.

Use it in your next session

  1. Review the first three deaths only.
  2. Give each one a single earliest-error label.
  3. Practise the most repeated label in the next session.

Review the pattern

Keep labels consistent across matches. A pattern of timing deaths requires a different practice plan from repeated missed execution in otherwise good fights.

Do not judge the habit by one match result. Look for cleaner decisions across several repeated situations, then make the cue slightly more demanding once it becomes automatic.

Use UpForge to review Deadlock matches, find repeated decision patterns, and turn them into a focused practice plan.
