Welcome to Valorant

Valorant is a 5v5 tactical first-person shooter by Riot Games. Two teams compete across 25 rounds (first to 13 wins). Attackers try to plant a bomb called the Spike at one of two or three sites; Defenders try to stop them or defuse it after it's planted.

---

Understanding Agents

Every player chooses one of 26 agents divided into four roles:

  • Duelists — Self-sufficient fraggers built to win 1v1s. Examples: Jett, Reyna, Neon
  • Controllers — Deploy smokes to control space. Examples: Omen, Brimstone, Astra
  • Initiators — Gather information and enable pushes. Examples: Sova, Fade, Gekko
  • Sentinels — Anchor sites and watch flanks. Examples: Killjoy, Cypher, Sage
For beginners: Start with Reyna (simple kit), Brimstone (easy smokes), or Sage (healing keeps you relevant). Avoid Viper or Astra until you understand map layouts.

---

The Maps

Key maps to learn first:

  • Ascent — Classic two-site map. Best for learning fundamentals.
  • Bind — Two sites connected by teleporters.
  • Haven — Unique three-site map.
  • Sunset — Two-site map, newer and lower pick rate so less studied opponents.
Tip: Focus on Ascent first — clear layouts, predictable rotations.

---

Economy: Spend Smart, Win More

ItemCost
Classic (pistol)Free
Ghost500cr
Spectre (SMG)1,600cr
Vandal / Phantom (rifles)2,900cr
Operator (sniper)4,700cr

Buy phases:

  • Full buy — Rifles + full abilities. Aim for this whenever possible.
  • Eco round — Save deliberately to full-buy next round.
  • Force buy — Spend what you have when you must win now.
Golden rule: If your teammates are saving, you save too. Coordinated eco rounds win more than scattered buys.

---

Gunfight Basics

Two critical mechanics first:

    • Stand still to shoot accurately. Moving drastically reduces accuracy.
    • Counter-strafe — Tap the opposite direction key before shooting to stop instantly and restore accuracy.

Most important habit: keep your crosshair at head height at all times. Less flicking = faster kills.

---

Round Flow

    • Buy phase (30s) — Buy weapons and abilities
    • Attacker push — Use utility to take control of a site
    • Plant — Plant the Spike (~4 seconds)
    • Post-plant — Defenders retake, attackers hold
    • End — Spike detonates, defused, or all enemies die

---

Ranked Mode

Unlock at Account Level 20. Nine ranks:

Iron → Bronze → Silver → Gold → Platinum → Diamond → Ascendant → Immortal → Radiant

Each rank (except Immortal/Radiant) has three tiers. You gain Rank Rating (RR) for wins, lose it for losses. Most new players place Iron 2 to Bronze 2 — completely normal.

---

Five Habits to Build From Day One

    • Crosshair at head height — always, everywhere
    • Call out what you see — even "B site, two" helps
    • Watch your credits — check scoreboard before every buy
    • Use abilities before peeking — create the advantage, then fight
    • Review one round per session — ask "what would have worked better?"
