Valorant Operator Guide: When to Buy and How to Hold Angles

The Operator taxes your team's economy and map control. Buy it when angles favour you — not because you hit one flick last round.

The Op is a tax

4,700 credits buys map control — or a donated rifle if you miss and die untraded.

When to buy

  • You won pistol or eco and can afford miss + buy next
  • Map favours long holds (Breeze, certain Ascent/ Sunset angles)
  • Team has rifles to trade your angle

When to skip

  • Full buy round where team needs rifles more than one Op
  • You missed last Op and have no confidence on current map
  • Attack side default — Op picks are situational, not every round

Holding angles

  • One angle per phase — reposition after shot or deny
  • Do not repeek same line after miss unless traded
  • Call when you are holding — teammates play around Op threat

Attack Op picks

Clear common defender anchors on exec, then drop Op for rifle after site take. Carrying Op on retake is a liability.
