Valorant's Rank System

Nine tiers from lowest to highest:

Gold1, 2, 3~18%

Diamond1, 2, 3~7%
Ascendant1, 2, 3~5%
Immortal1, 2, 3~1.5%

Rank Rating (RR)

You need 100 RR to advance one tier. Per match:

  • Win → +15 to +30 RR (varies by performance)
  • Loss → -15 to -30 RR
  • Top performance in a loss → Lose fewer RR
  • Carrying a win → Earn more RR

Promotions are seamless — reach 100 RR and you instantly enter the next tier.

Demotion shields: A new tier gives you a few games of protection from dropping back.

---

What Is MMR?

Alongside visible RR, Valorant tracks hidden Matchmaking Rating (MMR).

  • MMR higher than your rank → Gain more per win, lose less per loss
  • MMR lower than your rank → Gain less, lose more

This is why two same-rank players have different RR swings. Boosted accounts bleed RR because MMR doesn't lie.

---

Placement Matches

Each Act (~two months), all players get a soft reset (~one full tier drop) then play five placement matches. Your MMR carries over, so playing well in placements lands you above your reset point.

---

Fastest Path Through Each Rank

Iron → Bronze: Fix crosshair placement. Head height at all times.

Bronze → Silver: Use abilities proactively, not reactively. Create advantages before the fight.

Silver → Gold: Develop information habits. Listen for footsteps, use the minimap, rotate on data not guesses.

Gold → Platinum: Stop playing five solos. Communicate before aggression. Learn two lineups per map on your agent.

Platinum → Diamond: Agent mastery becomes mandatory. Your main's lineup knowledge must be reliable under pressure.

Diamond → Ascendant+: Macro decision-making. When to default, execute, bail. VOD review is essential.

Common Rank Myths

"My team is holding me back."

Individual performance across 30-50 games determines rank. If you're genuinely better, you will climb.

"I need to play X agent to climb."

No single agent is required below Immortal. Consistency beats complex agents played poorly.
