Valorant Agent Tier List: Patch 12.09
Patch 12.09 reshaped the duelist landscape significantly. Neon took meaningful nerfs that dropped her from the top of the tier list, Miks and Waylay are now fully settled into the meta, and the controller pool remains dominant. Here is the full ranking.
S-Tier — Pick Every Game
Clove
Clove remains the best controller in the game. The post-death smoke mechanic combined with the ability to revive on round-winning plays makes her an irreplaceable flex pick. No map punishes Clove.
Gekko
Retrievable creatures, autonomous spike planting, and a double-use ultimate for 6 points makes Gekko the most cost-efficient initiator. His solo-queue value is exceptional.
Omen
One-way smokes, global teleport deception, and a paranoia flash that hits through walls. Omen has been quietly consistent for years and 12.09 is no different.
Sage
A pocket heal and a wall that splits any site in half. Sage's floor is higher than any other agent — even a mediocre Sage provides round-winning utility.
Sova
Sova's recon bolt still covers more map than any other information ability in the game. Owl Drone and Hunter's Fury add information, damage, and cross-map pressure. Essential on most maps.

A-Tier — Strong Picks
Breach
Best team-play initiator in the game. Rolling Thunder remains one of the most powerful ultimates. Slightly below S-tier because he requires communication to reach full value.
Fade
Terror, Decay, and Seize make Fade an aggressive initiator who generates both information and disruption. Strong on maps with tight corridors.
Iso
Double Tap overshield, Contingency moving cover, and Kill Contract for isolated 1v1 situations. High ceiling for mechanical players.
Miks
Settled well into the meta post-introduction. Waveform smokes reduce controller dependency and Harmonize makes him genuinely team-enabling as a duelist.
Cypher
Tripwire information, Spycam active coverage, and Trapwire setup make Cypher the best information sentinel when played at a high level.
Killjoy
Alarmbot plus Turret plus Lockdown makes Killjoy the best site anchor in the game. Incredibly strong on Ascent, Bind, and Haven.

B-Tier — Viable With Investment
Neon
Dropped from A to B+ after 12.09. Relay Bolt down to 1 charge, Overdrive down to 1 charge. Still an elite duelist for mechanical players but now punishes mistakes harshly.
Yoru
Post-12.05 Gatecrash buff (30s to 15s cooldown) pushed him into viability. High skill ceiling — rewards players who study enemy habits.
Brimstone
Map-targeted smokes, stim beacon, and Orbital Strike are all strong in isolation. Falls slightly behind Omen and Clove in flexibility but remains a solid pick for structured teams.
Reyna
Strongest duelist for pure solo-carry mechanical players. No team utility but Dismiss and Devour make her self-sustaining in a way no other duelist can match.
Jett
Dash remains one of the most valuable mobility abilities in the game for Operator play. Slightly behind her peak but still excellent for Operator-first players.
Harbor
Cove bubble and Cascade wall are underrated. Harbor sits at B because he requires specific team comp support to reach his ceiling.
Astra
Mechanically demanding but incredibly powerful at high ranks where players can set up stars proactively. B-tier in most ranked environments, S-tier in organised play.
---
C-Tier — Niche or Outclassed
Phoenix
Still lacks the team utility that other duelists have gained. Run It Back is high-risk, high-reward but requires mechanical excellence to justify the pick.
KAY/O
Strong suppression kit but outclassed in the current meta. ZERO/POINT provides game-changing value when it lands but is difficult to use consistently.
Tejo
Newer agent still being figured out by the community. Arclobe and Stealth Drone provide utility but the kit lacks the immediate impact of other initiators.
Waylay
Similar to Tejo — post-introduction period where players are still discovering the ceiling. Hinder mechanics are potent but not yet optimised at most ranks.

Meta Notes for Patch 12.09
Neon nerf impact: The reduction from 2 Relay Bolt charges to 1 and 2 Overdrive charges to 1 significantly reduced her room for error. She is still viable but no longer the automatic pick she was.
Controller meta: Clove, Omen, and Brimstone continue to dominate. Three-smoke compositions remain powerful and teams without reliable smoke coverage struggle on attack.
Initiator preference: Breach and Fade are both A-tier but serve different team styles. Breach for aggressive coordinated teams. Fade for teams that want information plus disruption.
