Who Is Omen?

Omen is the most popular controller in Valorant at mid-to-high ranks, and for good reason. His smokes can be placed anywhere on the map (unlike Brimstone's limited range), his Paranoia flash reaches through walls, and his two teleport abilities make him the most positionally flexible controller in the game. He's harder to master than Brimstone but significantly more powerful once his kit clicks.

Abilities Breakdown

Dark Cover (C) — 100cr each, 2 charges

Deploy a long-range smoke anywhere on the map. Toggle between a short-range view and full-map view. Smokes last 15 seconds.

Key advantages over Brimstone smokes:

  • Truly global range — you can smoke from T spawn to defender side
  • No "line of sight" requirement — you can smoke behind walls
  • Controllable height and position via the top-down view
Standard smoke positions to learn first:

Ascent:

  • Smoke CT and Market window for B execute
  • Smoke Catwalk and A heaven for A execute
  • Smoke mid top for mid-control games
Bind:
  • Smoke showers on A for a clean execute from A short
  • Smoke hookah entrance for B side pressure
The mistake: Placing smokes too early. Smoke when your team is ready to push, not 30 seconds before so the smokes expire during the execute.

Paranoia (Q) — 300cr

Send a projectile forward that nearsights (blurs vision of) any enemy it passes through, including through walls.

Key uses:

  • Send it down a corridor before pushing to blind anyone holding the angle
  • Throw it through a wall to blind an enemy you know is on the other side
  • Use as a pseudo-flash to support a teammate's push
Why Paranoia is better than it looks: It passes through walls. A blind sent down mid on Ascent from T-spawn affects both mid-open and mid-cubby players simultaneously. There's no angle where enemies can "step out of" the way — they must destroy it or be blinded.

Shrouded Step (E) — 100cr

Short-range teleport. Omen crouches briefly, then teleports to the target location with an audible sound cue.

Key uses:

  • Escape from a bad angle after trading (teleport to safety)
  • Teleport to an unexpected elevation (box tops, ledges)
  • Fake a teleport to bait enemies into thinking you've moved
The sound cue: Enemies hear the teleport. Use this deliberately — teleporting to a spot where they expect you, then not being there (using the fake) forces misplays.

From the Shadows (X) — 6 ultimate points

Full-map teleport. Omen travels to any location on the map as a dark orb, then materialises. Can be cancelled by enemies who shoot the orb.

Best uses:

  • Spawn-side flank during an execute (teleport behind defending team)
  • Retake from unexpected positions
  • Bluff teleport: start the animation, cancel it, use the information about where enemies are trying to intercept you
Biggest mistake: Using From the Shadows aggressively into 3+ enemies. The orb is easy to shoot when the enemy team has time and attention. Use it when the enemy team is occupied on a different site.

Best Maps for Omen

Excellent:

  • Ascent — Mid control through smokes is the central mechanic of the map; Omen's global smokes handle it perfectly
  • Split — High ground and tight corners make Paranoia devastating
Harder:
  • Fracture — Multi-direction entries make smoke allocation difficult
  • Pearl — Long sightlines make Paranoia less effective on approach

Common Mistakes

    • Placing smokes too early — Smokes last 15 seconds. Placing them 20s before your execute means they've expired when you arrive.
    • Using Shrouded Step without sound awareness — Enemies hear the teleport. Don't teleport to a position where you emerge into a waiting enemy.
    • Wasting Paranoia at close range — Paranoia's value is at medium-to-long range through walls. At 3m, a regular shot is faster.
    • Teleporting with From the Shadows into a contested site — The orb is soft; wait until the site is clear or enemies are distracted.
