Deadlock ranked system is newer and less documented than CS2 or Valorant which means a lot of players are grinding without understanding what is actually moving their rank. Here is how the system works.

The Rank Structure

From lowest to highest: Obscuras Seeker Alchemist Arcanist Ritualist Emissary Archon Oracle Phantom Ascendant Eternus.

Each rank except Eternus has six sub-ranks (I through VI). There is significant granularity before a rank change happens.

How MMR Works

Deadlock uses a hidden MMR that runs in parallel with your visible badge. Your badge is a delayed display of your actual rating - it updates over time not after every single game.

Wins move MMR up losses move it down. The magnitude depends on expected outcome - beating a higher-ranked team earns more losing to a lower-ranked team loses more.

Individual performance is factored in but a team win where you played poorly is still worth more than a team loss where you performed well.

Your badge updates in thresholds not continuously. It jumps when your hidden MMR crosses the next sub-rank threshold.

Placements

Your performance in placement matches plus hidden MMR from normal games determines your starting rank. Players with hundreds of normal games before entering ranked typically place significantly higher.

What Actually Moves Your Rank

Consistency beats peak performance. One great game surrounded by losses does not move your badge. A 60 percent winrate over 20 games does.

Lane performance matters most early. Souls efficiency and kill participation in the laning phase are heavily tracked.

Objective involvement counts. Being present for Urn and Midboss has measurable impact on your performance score.

Stop playing on tilt. A five-game losing streak usually means something in your play broke down. Stop queuing identify the problem fix it.

Rank Distribution

Most players sit in the Alchemist-Ritualist range. Reaching Emissary puts you in roughly the top 30 percent of the playerbase. Oracle and above is genuinely rare.

Tips for Climbing

    • Play S-tier heroes. Hero variance adds up over dozens of games.
    • Learn one or two heroes deeply. Switching every game means you are never comfortable with your kit.
    • Objectives over kills. Urn delivery and Midboss are game-winning events.
    • Track your Souls per minute. The most objective measure of macro efficiency.
    • Review your deaths not your kills. Every death is a decision that went wrong.
