Grey Talon is Deadlock precision marksman - built around long-range threat that forces enemies to respect your angles or die for ignoring them. Played well one of the highest-damage heroes in the game. Played poorly a passive Charged Shot machine that contributes nothing to fights it cannot see.
What Makes Grey Talon Strong
Strengths: Massive burst damage from Charged Shot global kill threat via Guided Owl zone control with Immobilizing Trap fights at ranges most heroes cannot match.
Weaknesses: Heavily ability-dependent between Charged Shot cooldowns punished hard by gap closers like Mo and Krill and Shiv requires good aim to fully deliver.
Abilities
Rain of Arrows (Passive): Rapid attacks generate stacking Spirit damage on targets. Rewards sustained multi-shot engagements.
Charged Shot: A massive projectile that deals Spirit damage on hit. Full charge is devastating partial charge is still significant. Your entire kit orbits this ability.
Immobilizing Trap: Places a trap that roots the first enemy that triggers it. Use it to catch divers hold choke points or stop fleeing kill targets.
Guided Owl: A controllable owl that reveals enemies and deals powerful Spirit damage on impact. Identifying a low-health enemy in another lane and finishing them with the owl is one of the highest-value plays in Deadlock.
Rain of Arrows (Ultimate): Fires a rapid burst of arrows at a target location dealing sustained Spirit damage. Excellent for zoning or punishing clumped enemies.
Best Build
Early (0-8k Souls): Sprint Boots Extra Spirit Extra Health Infuser
Mid (8k-20k Souls): Mystic Burst (amplifies next ability cast on cooldown - huge burst synergy) Improved Cooldown (Charged Shot on shorter cooldown is critical) Cold Front (slows enemies hit by abilities) Sharpshooter (bonus range damage)
Late (20k plus Souls): Rapid Recharge Escalating Resilience Boundless Spirit Bullet Armor (mandatory if getting dived)
Laning
Hold angles near Orb spawns: Position for a clear shot as orbs drop. Force opponents to choose between Souls and eating a Charged Shot.
Trap the approach path: Place Immobilizing Trap on the most likely path to orbs. A trapped enemy is a dead enemy.
Vary your angles: Experienced players hear the charge sound and dodge. Do not charge from the same spot twice.
Respect Kelvin who can freeze you mid-charge and Mo and Krill who can dive you under your tower. Play defensively into both.
Mid and Late Game
Using Guided Owl effectively: watch the minimap for low-health heroes in other lanes launch the Owl take manual control and aim ahead of moving targets. The Owl travels slowly so lead your shots.
A full-power Owl on a hero below 30 percent health is almost always a kill.
Teamfight positioning: stay behind your frontline at maximum engagement range. Charged Shots on priority targets zone with your ultimate. Never in melee range of anything.
Common Mistakes
Partial charging randomly - commits the sound without the damage. Full charge or do not charge.
Using Guided Owl on healthy targets - save it for sub-50 percent health.
Standing still while charging - Grey Talon can strafe while charging. Use it.
No escape plan - Sprint Boots active and a clear retreat path at all times.
