Kelvin Guide — Deadlock 2026
Kelvin is the best support hero in Deadlock. A cryogenic soldier encased in ice armour, he brings slows, zone control, and a powerful healing ultimate that can turn the tide of any teamfight. If you want to play a support who genuinely impacts every phase of the game, Kelvin is your hero.

Kelvin Overview
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Role | Support / Zoner |
| Tier | S |
| Primary Scaling | Spirit + Vitality |
| Difficulty | Medium |
| Best For | Teamfights, Utility, Peeling |
Kelvin excels at controlling space. His slows reduce enemy mobility, making it impossible for enemies to escape your team damage. In the current meta, Kelvin has one of the highest win rates in the game because his kit counters almost every playstyle — divers, poke heroes, and hyper carries all struggle against a well-played Kelvin.

Abilities Explained
Arctic Beam (1)
Kelvin fires a continuous beam of frost at a target, rapidly slowing them. The slow builds up the longer the beam stays on a target, eventually reducing movement speed to near zero.
Tip: Arctic Beam is a channelled ability — you cannot move during it. Pre-position before casting and point it at the highest-priority target rather than whoever is closest.
Frost Grenade (2)
Kelvin throws a grenade that creates a large AOE zone of ice, slowing all enemies caught inside for several seconds. The zone persists on the ground.
Tip: Frost Grenade is a zoning tool as much as a slow. Throw it in doorways, near enemy spawn paths, or at the feet of a group of enemies clustering around an objective. Enemies caught inside cannot exit without being slowed.
Ice Path (3)
Kelvin creates a wall of ice that blocks enemy movement. Ice Path can be placed in any direction and blocks both heroes and projectiles.
Tip: Ice Path is one of the strongest abilities in the game because it blocks projectiles. Use it to protect your carry from a sniper, cut off an enemy escape route, or split a teamfight in half so your team fights 4v3.
Frozen Shelter (Ultimate)
Kelvin creates a large dome that heals all friendly heroes inside it over several seconds. Enemies can enter the dome but receive no benefit and move slowly inside it.
Tip: Frozen Shelter has a cast time — place it slightly ahead of where your team will be, not on top of them. The correct play is usually to place the dome and immediately pivot to using Arctic Beam on the biggest threat while your team heals.

How to Play Kelvin
Laning Phase
Kelvin is one of the stronger lane supports because of how persistent his slows are. Your goal is to Frost Grenade aggressively — land it on the enemy laner and follow up with basic attacks. The extended slow gives your lane partner easy follow-up damage.
Avoid channelling Arctic Beam in the open early on — you are rooted during the channel and easy to punish. Save it for when an enemy is already committed to a fight.
Mid Game
Mid-game Kelvin is about being in the right place. Ice Path is your most impactful ability — blocking a key engagement or saving a teammate with a well-placed wall does more for your team than damage.
In skirmishes, lead with Frost Grenade to slow the enemy group, then use Arctic Beam on the carry while your team deals damage. If your team takes a bad fight, Frozen Shelter can completely erase the damage they take.
Late Game
Late-game Kelvin wins teamfights if positioned correctly. The combo is:
- Frost Grenade on the enemy group
- Ice Path to cut off their escape or protect your carry
- Arctic Beam on the highest-priority target
- Frozen Shelter when your team is getting low
- With Refresher, activate it and throw a second Frozen Shelter
The difference between a good and great Kelvin is Ice Path timing. A well-placed wall that blocks the enemy carry escape is often the decisive factor in teamfights.

Common Mistakes
Channelling Arctic Beam from the front. You cannot move while channelling. Stand behind your tanks or in a safe position — do not stand in the middle of the fight.
Using Frozen Shelter too early. The dome heals over time — place it when your team has taken meaningful damage, not pre-emptively. Pre-emptive domes waste the healing potential.
Wasting Ice Path. Ice Path has a relatively long cooldown early. Save it for when blocking the wall wins the fight outright.
Building too much Spirit damage early. Kelvin strength is his utility. Prioritize Healing Booster and cooldown reduction before heavy Spirit damage items.

Kelvin Tips & Tricks
- Frozen Shelter dome heals teammates who enter after it is placed — it does not require everyone to be inside at cast time
- Arctic Beam can be quickly re-aimed between two targets — freeze one, then beam onto another as the first is already slowed
- Ice Path can block enemy ultimates that are projectile-based — it literally stops the projectile mid-air
- Frost Grenade AOE is larger than it looks — aim at the ground between clustered enemies rather than directly at a single target
- Kelvin can heal himself with Frozen Shelter — if you are being dove as a support, drop the dome on yourself and sustain through the burst
